Malavika Agnimitra

The most important word is that its love story that too “kingly love story”. Beautiful thing about these stories is their title; mostly it will be lovers name. Like, Sita Ram, Radha Krishna, Lila Majnu, Malavika Agnimitra, Swapna Vasavadatta etc All options given are love stories but a or b make more sense wrt to the question. If you are able to connect Agni Mitra as “Mitra” runs in Sunga Dynasty like “Pushya Mitra”, the best option would be B.

Vijayanagara Taxation

Statement 1 talks about the tax on land quality. Ok? First we have to think When an Empire will start levying tax on land quality? It is not a simple tax, there are lot of processes involved in assessing the land quality. So it will be possible when the empire is stable and well established. And it is a common knowledge that Vijayanagara was a big powerful empire that lasted centuries. So it was big and stable more so under the rule of Krishna Deva. Hence our statement 1 is absolutely correct. Similarly Akbar was one to establish an extensive tax system once the Mughal empire was stable. Statement 2 can also be answered using common knowledge. In Vijayanagara the King was the ultimate authority. So everyone basically breathing his air has to pay tax else he should be in a service to the king. So private owner should pay tax in cash or manufactured goods. If I’m not wrong people were even taxed for keeping a garden in their home or for decorating their homes. So our stateme...

Masala Bond

Very easy question ‘IFC Masala Bond’ Masala Bond means Indian rupee denominated bond IFC bond- IFC sister to World Bank So answer is C Both 1 and 2

UDAY

This is the easiest of questions. If you know the full form of UDAY you get the question correct. I think most people will know it is something related to electricity but problem is every option is related to electricity in one way or the other. If you know the full form of just ‘D’ in UDAY, you will get the answer correct. D stands for DISCOM meaning DIStribution COMpanies. So only option related to DISCOM is D

INDC

Ok INDC, it seems to be an easy question (a non-thinker) of course for people who know it. INDC, Intended, Nationally Determined, it is a sort of compromise reached among countries of the world. Statement 1, a pledge to rehabilitate refugees, definitely one issue which worth taking a pledge but they have never reached a compromise of that sort. Most of the coastal EU countries are forced to accommodate the refugee not planned or pledged. Statement 2, to combat climate change - absolutely possible. Climate change has been a pressing issue with a lot of divides north-south, rich-poor and arguments for and against. Hence INDC is a likely compromise. Statement 3, establishment of a bank, it is a venture, buying shares, there is nothing nationally determined. In most cases, you offered something and you take it. Statement 4, regarding SDG, it is a very good option. Now that we are left with option b or d. Look in SDGs we tend to see countries want to perform better, because...

Fast LiFi

LiFi is written same as WiFi with a capital F, so it has no doubt some relation with WiFi. Like Wi in WiFi is wireless, Li in LiFi is li***. Statement 1- Light as a medium, absolutely plausible. Statement 2- faster WiFi, definitely yes, it is something recent and new, so it should be faster. Answer is C, easiest question of all.

Payment Banks

This is a very easy question if you know the concept of a PAYMENT BANK, then is it’s quite factual. If you don’t know, then we will think upon it. Why would RBI conceptualize Payment bank? Obvious answer would be to bring rural population into the banking fold (Banking Inclusion) so that people can park their excess money in the bank and get an interest. At the same time RBI cannot make it like a normal bank. So there will be limitations. If you them directly it would be “non thinker” question. For those who don’t know it, this question that you should not leave but give a calculated guess. So when I read the 2 nd and 3 rd statement I find them contradicting to each other.  Look in 2 nd statement it says it can issue credit cards and in 3 rd it says in it cannot give loan. If a bank can issue a credit card it should be eligible to lend money. Either one of them is correct. 2 and 3 cannot exist together Option D out. Now statement 1 is talking about big players,...

Reduce Budget Deficit

This one of the easiest question you can find in the question paper, there is no need of any special knowledge. Most important word ‘reduce the deficit’ Deficit meaning there is a shortfall (not enough money) in the budget. So the government loaned a lot of money to meet it's expenditure. 1.   Reducing revenue expenditure: Yes it definitely will reduce the deficit, less unnecessary spending means more money to spend, so there no need of any loan. 2.   Introducing new welfare scheme: Making anything new drains money, let alone a welfare scheme where there is ‘zero profit making’. So No, this won’t help in reducing budget deficit. 3.   Rationalizing Subsidies: Yes this will absolutely help, rationalizing means giving the benefits of subsidy only to the needy. Not to anyone and everyone who ask for it. Often misused in a country like India for vote bank politics. 4.   Reducing import duty: No it won’t help. Levying import duty one most important...

Hunger Index Indicators

Ok, this can be very tricky question but it can be easily solved by common sense. Firstly, Hunger Index is a numerical index. They have given us certain indicators; we need to match the correct indicators to the index. We are going to solve it by checking each indicator with three parameters 1)   Congruency- Whether indicator is related to the index or in context with the index? 2)   Whether the indicators are distinct to one another? 3)   Whether the indicators are calculable or not? Undernourishment, Child stunting, Child mortality all the indicators are related to Hunger. Are they distinct? Yes they are. Undernourishment is related to dietary intake Child stunting is related to height of the child, Child mortality is related to age of death Now are they calculable? This can be tricky but look Undernourishment can be calculated by the amount of calorie intake per day etc Child stunting is about measuring the child’s height using a scale ...

Bill Lapsing

Firstly we do the word by word analysis, Statement 1 Most important word is PROROGATION. So what is prorogation?  In layman terms Prorogation means ending the entire session of the parliament not any day of the session. Next thing we have to know is that Prorogation is not the end of the house, mostly same MPs will be occupying the seats when they come for the next session. So there is no point in bill lapsing after a PROROGATION (because it is not dissolution) So statement 1 is wrong Statement 2 Most important word is DISSOLUTION of Loksabha. Dissolution means the entire lower house is about to change, new MPs are about to come means new legislations are about to come. Here the bill originated in Rajya Sabha it has not touched the Loksabha. So there is no point in ‘lapsing’ that bill as Rajya Sabha is a permanent house and it can give the same bill to new coming Loksabha. So statement 2 is Correct So our answer is B And thank God they didn’t ...
